Our EEC program operates the Silver Lake Preschool with Tu/Thur & M/W/F sessions. Applications  will be taken 2/1-2/29 2024 and the lottery will be drawn 3/8/2024.

Early Education students learn about the development of children from birth to school age and specific teaching strategies used to foster development in the cognitive, social, emotional, fine and gross motor skills of young children. The classroom and preschool facility includes a state-of-the-art lab that is beneficial to students and supported by the community. Students gain experience serving as teachers and preparing lessons for the Silver Lake Preschool.

Certifications or licenses you may earn while in high school:

  • Early Education Program Certificate
  • Department of Early Education & Care Preschool Certification
  • Adult, Infant and Child CPR Certification

Which skills are learned?

Behavior management, first Aid/CPR, recognizing signs of abuse/neglect, curriculum writing and development, lesson planning, bulletin board design, implementing diversity and inclusion into a classroom.

What type of job can you get after graduation?

Before and after school programs, summer camps, day care.

With additional training / education, what jobs are available?

Day care director, public or private school teacher, curriculum developer, educational consultant, early intervention specialist, licensing specialist, pediatrician, pediatric nurse, social worker or child psychologist. Additional on-the-job training and child development coursework will allow students to obtain a license as an Infant/Toddler Educator.
