Students in the visual arts education program experience a comprehensive and sequential curriculum taught by certified art education specialists, balanced with electives in specialized areas. Courses and extracurricular offerings within the department support the core values identified in the Silver Lake Mission Statement, as well as providing opportunity for students to demonstrate many aspects of the Vision of the Graduate. Course offerings are established based on the standards contained in the Massachusetts Arts Curriculum Frameworks, which were revised in 2019 to focus on these four overarching strands: Creating, Presenting, Responding and Connecting.

Course offerings are established based on the standards contained in the Massachusetts Arts Curriculum Frameworks, which were revised in 2019 to focus on these four overarching strands: Creating, Performing, Responding and Connecting. Standards for Music include singing, reading and notation, playing instruments, improvisation and composition, critical response, and music technology. Courses and extracurricular offerings within the department support the core values identified in the Silver Lake Mission Statement, as well as providing opportunity for students to demonstrate many aspects of the Vision of the Graduate.
